Plan the complete partition

Set the wall, openings and lining build-up first. Then replace the planning rates with the selected tested-system requirements.

Describe the partition

Door deductions reduce sheet and insulation area. Two extra studs per door and one door-width track allowance are included for planning only.

The method

How the estimate works

Each output shows its assumptions so you can replace defaults with the dimensions, pack sizes and rates available to you.

01

Deduct openings

Door area is removed from board and insulation quantities, while dedicated framing allowances remain visible.

02

Count the lining

Net wall area is multiplied by boarded faces and layers, divided by board area, then increased by your cutting allowance.

03

Frame the run

Stud count follows the chosen centres with an end stud and a planning allowance around each doorway; top and bottom tracks are counted separately.

Important boundary

A material list is not a fire or acoustic design.

Partition height, duty, door mass, services, moisture, bracing, fire resistance and sound performance can require a different tested system or closer framing.

Real questions

Questions homeowners ask

How many drywall boards do I need?+

Calculate the net wall area after openings, multiply by the number of boarded faces and layers, divide by board area, then add a sensible cutting allowance.

Should drywall studs be 400 or 600 mm apart?+

It depends on partition height, board type, layers and required performance. Use the spacing specified for the complete manufacturer-tested system.

Do I subtract doors from a drywall estimate?+

Yes for boards and insulation, but doorways also need extra jamb and head framing. This calculator keeps both effects visible.

Can I use ordinary board in a bathroom?+

Wet or high-humidity locations need a compatible moisture-resistant lining and waterproofing design. Confirm the whole wall build-up, not only the board name.
