The method

How the estimate works

Each output shows its assumptions so you can replace defaults with the dimensions, pack sizes and rates available to you.

Find plan area

Rectangles use length × width, ovals use the ellipse factor π ÷ 4, and round pools use π × radius².

Average the depth

The shallow and deep depths are averaged, then multiplied by plan area to estimate cubic metres and litres.

Check circulation

Pool volume divided by the selected turnover time gives an ideal flow target before real plumbing and filter losses.

Important boundary

Never guess a chemical dose or pump size.

Test the water, follow the exact registered product label and never mix chemicals. A pool professional must account for pipe losses, filter resistance and electrical safety.

How do I calculate how many litres are in my pool?+

Multiply plan area by average depth to get cubic metres, then multiply by 1,000. For a sloping pool, average the shallow and deep depths first.

How do I calculate an oval pool's volume?+

Use length × width × π ÷ 4 for plan area, then multiply by average depth and 1,000 for litres.

What pool-pump flow rate do I need?+

Volume divided by the desired turnover minutes gives an ideal flow target. Final selection must use the pump curve and total plumbing resistance.

Can I use the result to dose pool chemicals?+

Only scale the exact rate on the selected product label after testing the water. The calculator intentionally provides no generic chemical prescription.
