Design the occupied room rather than an empty plan
Draw a person standing at the basin, entering the shower, using the toilet and drying off while every nearby door and drawer is open. Protect elbow, knee and cleaning space. A technically fitting fixture can still make the room uncomfortable if two functions cannot happen in their normal sequence.
Keep services accessible
Short service runs can reduce disruption, but retaining a poor location is not automatically economical. Coordinate wastes with joists or slabs, provide access to valves and concealed cisterns, and keep electrical equipment outside regulated wet zones. Finalise extraction routing before lowering ceilings or closing bulkheads.
